Connecting with other women is something that comes easily to me when I meet people in person. My desire to help others is apparent in my tone of voice. The passion when I speak about wanting to help women thrive comes through loud and clear. I have no doubt about that.
Conveying that with the written word requires a little more finesse, so I was instantly intrigued when I stumbled upon this book called “Building a StoryBrand” on Audible. Of all the books I’ve read this year (and they’ve all been excellent), this one contained the most helpful guidelines for helping potential clients connect with my brand.
I don’t do long reviews – you can find those on Amazon or on any number of blogs or review websites. I just want to share my biggest takeaways with you so you’ll know if it might be a good fit for you. I like to keep my blog positive overall, so I won’t review every book I’ve attempted, especially if I didn’t like it or didn’t finish it. I only review the books I absolutely love and think many of my readers could use, too.
Here are my biggest takeaways from “Building a StoryBrand”. This book taught me the basic framework for telling you, my customer or potential customer, what you need to know and how I can help you. The best way for me to help you connect with my brand is to share with you a problem that you’re most likely having (struggling with weight, for example), tell you why it’s important for you to care about it and what can happen if you don’t fix it. Not just the health problems, but the ramifications for your self esteem, how you interact with your family, the example you set for your daughters when you critique your body in front of them…
Then I show you how I can help you fix it. Not how I can fix it…YOU are the hero here. I’m just here to help. As an NASM-certified trainer and someone who has struggled with my weight since I was 12, and as someone who’s worked tirelessly to develop a great relationship with food, I’ve been there, and I can help you get to where I am now. And I can give you the tools you need to succeed (like fitness challenges where workouts and nutrition guidelines are laid out with you, and where you can do it alongside a powerful community of women). I have already been giving out free tools like my intense two-week JumpStart program to get you on the right track, and I’ll continue sharing my knowledge and giving away as many free resources as I can to help you have long-term success!
If you ever think you will start a business, or if you want to start thinking about it, this book is an absolute must!
A note about Audible: If you’re not currently an Audible listener, you can get a free audiobook when you join. However, when you sign up using my affiliate link, you get two free audiobooks! I signed up for Audible about a year before I started actually using it, and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long. If you intend to read but never actually do it, give Audible a shot. My commutes and road trips have become pleasant and productive and each book changes my perspective and helps me learn and grow.
