Rachel’s Ten Minute Rule

Some days, the thought of dragging myself to the gym is just more than I can bear. I’m exhausted, drained, busy, or just lacking motivation. I just don’t wanna.

I came up with my “ten minute rule” a few years ago when I wanted to talk myself out of hitting the gym.

Here’s how it works: When I don’t want to exercise, I make myself take my preworkout and creatine, head to the gym, and promise to go as hard as I can for ten minutes. My agreement with myself is that if I still feel awful after those ten minutes, I can let myself off the hook and head home, knowing I probably need the rest and that getting ten solid minutes of exercise is better than zero.

In all the years I’ve used this rule, I’ve only walked out of the gym after ten minutes
one time. More often than not, those workouts turn out to be incredible and I leave feeling exhilarated and proud of myself for pushing through.

Unless you’re ill, push through on those tough days. When you don’t want to exercise is usually when your body needs it most. Give your body what it needs – you’ll be glad you did.
